Check Now, Not in January
The worst time to discover a roof problem is during a Minnesota blizzard. Here are 5 things to check while you still can.
1. Granules in Your Gutters
Shingle granules protect against UV damage. If your gutters are full of them, your shingles are nearing end of life.
2. Daylight in the Attic
Go into your attic during the day. If you see pinpoints of light, water is getting in too.
3. Sagging Roof Deck
Look at your roofline from the street. Any sagging or dipping indicates structural issues that will only worsen under snow load.
4. Flashing Damage
Flashing around chimneys, vents, and wall junctions is where most leaks start. Cracked or lifted flashing needs repair before freeze/thaw cycles make it worse.
5. Age Over 20 Years
If your roof is over 20 years old and showing any of the above signs, get a professional inspection before winter.
